Payment terms with a deposit

Quick summary: A deposit is a separate invoice, so the final invoice’s payment terms contain only instalments for the remaining balance.

Enter the base address of your Odoo instance. It will be stored only in this browser.

The documentation does not receive your address, username, or password.

The customer pays a 30% deposit, 60% on the final invoice, and 10% after 30 days. The payment terms apply to the remaining 70%:

  • immediately: 60 ÷ 70 = 85.71%;
  • after 30 days: 10 ÷ 70 = 14.29%.
  1. Open Accounting > Configuration > Payment Terms and click New.
  2. Add instalments of 85.71% immediately and 14.29% after 30 days.
  3. Enter customer-friendly wording and translate both text fields.
  4. Select the terms on the quotation and confirm the sales order.
  5. Use Create Invoice to issue the 30% down-payment invoice. Set its payment terms to Immediate Payment.
  6. Later, create the Regular Invoice. Odoo splits the balance according to the configured instalments.
